HUNT & HIKE
FALLOW DEER in Sweden
Hunting trip with Presence, bonfires and wild game
Join us, Trine and Rikke, on an atmospheric hunting trip in the heart of Swedish nature. Here we will hunt fallow deer in an area we have hunted for several years and know like the back of our hand. It is a journey where the hunt is about much more than the trophy – it is about the peace and quiet of the forest, the smell of a campfire, and the special camaraderie that arises from the moment we creep out on the morning hunt until we sit together in the evening around the campfire, sharing stories about the day's experiences.
We give you the opportunity to live a wild hunting adventure in the great Swedish forests and glades. You can shoot the charismatic fallow buck, fallow doe and calf - as well as wild boar and fox. With us as your hunting guides and hosts, you get a unique chance to be involved in the entire hunting process. This includes the art of stalking, field dressing and cooking your own wild game.
THE HUNT
Our fallow deer hunt in Sweden is for those who want a genuine and down-to-earth hunting experience with a focus on good meat, closeness to nature and hunting on the game's terms. You hunt directly from your tent, in the middle of the terrain, and are always close to the action.
The hunt extends over three hunting days with a total of five to six outings where you are guided by us. We prioritise presence and time in the field over comfort and luxury. Many of our guests emphasise how much they enjoy the hunt itself and how it differs from more traditional hunting trips.
No meat is served unless you shoot it yourself - but this has never been a problem as all our hunting groups so far have been successful on their first outing. This trip is NOT a hunt for the trophy, but rather an experience focused on the hunt itself and the presence in nature.
FALLOW DEER
We offer quality hunts for fallow deer with a very high success rate in idyllic Sweden. In our area there is a large population of fallow deer, which has actually become a real nuisance. Our population is healthy and every year we see mature fallow bucks with a wide and characteristic spread and fawns in the best condition. We typically see a good age on our fallow bucks, which also means that we have many wallowing areas that are used again and again. The fallow deer stay in the dense bushes and dark deep forests, and in the early morning and late evening they move out to feed on the many green meadows.
HUNTING PERIODS
November - March
The rutting season for fallow deer extends from mid-October to the end of November. During this period, you can see the majestic fallow buck grunting at the wallowing areas to attract the females. Hunting them during the post rut is still an intense experience, but it can be just as exciting to stalk a large herd in an open field. Fallow deer in our area are numerous and you're sure to see them whether it's rutting season or not. In addition to fallow deer, it is also possible to combine hunting with wild boar and fox for a versatile and exciting hunting experience.
The area
Our area is beautifully situated between the two large Swedish lakes, Vänern and Vättern, with Mariestad as the nearest large town. Here you'll find a varied landscape ranging from dense coniferous forests to large open fields where fallow deer thrive. The idyllic red Swedish houses break the landscape here and there, and the terrain is a mix of flat areas and a few ridges. You can get up close to the fallow deer in the dense forests or sneak up on a herd in the lush open spaces.
The journey there
Transport to the hunting area is provided by the hunter. We meet at a small café about twenty minutes from our camp. From here we will guide you the rest of the way to the camp where we will spend the next three days together. The journey from Copenhagen takes about five hours, while from Jutland it's worth taking the ferry to Gothenburg, which reduces the journey time in Sweden to about two hours. If you come by plane it will make sense flying to Stockholm and rent a car from there. Here we'll be happy to help you planning your trip.
When you arrive at the camp, the hunting adventure begins immediately, depending on the time of day. There's plenty of time to get to know each other as we plunge into the Swedish idyll together. We welcome you to our small camp, where community and hunting experiences await.
Other activities
In addition to hunting fallow deer, this trip is also an opportunity to get closer as a group and immerse yourself in the craft of hunting. We have no fridge or butchery, so depending on your experience and interest, we offer workshops on how to handle meat in the wilderness. You can learn how to skin and fielddress on the ground without wasting meat, as well as how to prepare meat for shoulder or full mount.
At the camp there is always a campfire where we create cosiness and community. We share stories about hunting and learn from each other's experiences. It's an experience where both novice and experienced hunters can learn something new and build stronger bonds through the challenges and joys of hunting.

ACCOMMODATION
The camp consists of charming cotton tents that are set up directly on the forest floor and blend naturally into the surroundings. The toilet is simple and primitive, without water, giving an authentic experience of being close to nature. During the cold winter months, we create warmth and cosiness by firing up the stove in the tent. Evenings are spent around the fire, enjoying the glow of the flames, sharing stories about hunting adventures and preparing meals from the game we have shot throughout the trip. The atmosphere is intimate and the community strong, making every hunting trip an unforgettable experience.
Customer experience: Erik on his hunt
“Dear Rikke and Trine,
Thank you so much for a fantastic few days. We had high expectations, excited like little kids on Christmas Eve - so much so that our better halves tried to prepare us for the fact that it might not be quite what we hoped... But it was, it even far exceeded our expectations!
In you, we had two very professional hunting guides. You were skilled and knowledgeable and we learnt not only about game and hunting, but also about new and better hunting techniques. As people, you showed a high degree of integrity and it is clear that you are passionate about what you do. You are empathetic, personable and fun.
And the hunting area; it was crazy. There were deer everywhere! And moose, and wild boar, and roe deer.
Thank you so much for everything.
See you next year!”

We've now been in Canada for almost a month, and the first few weeks have been about much more than just hunting. 🏔️
Rikke has been taking part in a biological study in the Rocky Mountains, collecting plant samples in areas where Stone Sheep are often found. Studies like these help us better understand and protect nature and wildlife. Meanwhile, Trine has been at basecamp, training horses and getting everything ready for the season.
Being a hunting guide in Canada is about much more than hunting – we grow, learn, and improve every time we are here. Now we’re looking forward to welcoming our first clients of the season. 🐻
Hope all is well back in Denmark!
We went snowshoeing today and found a matching pair. 🫎
Heading off to Canada, preparing for another bear season next week. Can't wait to welcome our hunting guests for some wilderness adventures. 🐻
As many of you have already discovered, we have been chosen to host a nature programme on DR. Thank you to all of you who are writing and calling – we are doing our best to reach you all in the coming days.
There are many reactions, and we understand that. For us, it's about approaching it with respect, being ourselves throughout, and continuing to communicate the hunt at eye level.
At the same time, we want to be very clear: Our company and our hunting guests are and will remain at the heart of what we do. We will continue to provide guidance, give lectures, and take companies out into nature – both in Denmark and around the world.
We don't compromise on Hunt & Hike – we're fundamentally just two hunting guides with a passion for adventure.
Thanks for the support 🧡

Our last group in Sweden included a familiar face-a former hunting guest and friend from our mountain goat trips in Canada. This time, he brought his twin sons along.
It really made it all come full circle guiding their father to success on mountain goat, and just a year and a half later guiding his two boys on fallow deer here in Sweden.
Hunting across generations means everything to us. Not just for the tradition, but because really the best moments are shared under open skies and around a fire. 🌕

Our hunting trips to Sweden are for anyone who wants the full experience. 🇸🇪
Whether you're totally new to hunting, looking to learn new techniques or just get better at what you already do.
These guys came to learn-and to bring some meat home for their families.
We guided them through everything, from field dressing and skinning to how we plan and approach a stalk, so they could be part of the whole process.
Thanks for a great trip guys, safe travels home 🌲
