HUNT & HIKE
MOOSE in Canada
Our journey on Moose
It's not just about the hunt, but about the entire experience. We create journeys where nature, respect for the animal, and adventure are at the centre.
We hunt on the moose's terms, taking responsibility for what we are a part of. Something special about this hunt is the work after the kill – where a large animal must be handled with professionalism, respect, and often with the help of horses in the terrain.
We, Rikke and Trine, are your guides. We are trained hunting guides and are with you all the way – from the initial contact to the long days in the mountains.
We offer quality Canadian moose hunts with a very high success rate in the most beautiful surroundings. The average spread of our bull moose is 45-55 inches, and some even reach close to 60 inches. Every year we see more and more mature trophy bulls, and the extent of our guiding territory allows us to offer several different types of moose hunts without sacrificing the quality of the hunt or the quality of the moose.
THE HUNT
As we offer tailor-made moose hunting experiences, we can customise the hunt to suit your exact requirements. Depending on the time and how you want to put together your dream adventure, moose hunting can take many different forms. Here we have tried to describe some of the options you can choose from, but remember that they are not necessarily mutually exclusive - you can customise your hunt to make it unique for you.
HUNTING FROM HORSE
Moose hunting on horseback provides an authentic and exciting experience where we can reach really remote areas and spot bull moose from long distances. The horses allow us to cover large areas quickly and efficiently, while giving us a great overview of the terrain. Once the moose is harvested, the horses help transport the game back to camp.
HUNTING FROM A BOAT
Moose hunting from a boat provides a different and beautiful hunting experience as we navigate through the large lakes and rivers in the hunting area. Bull moose often come down to the water to drink during the rut season, giving us a unique opportunity to spot them from the boat. This hunt is less physically demanding, but still incredibly exciting as we get close to the wild nature and get a completely different perspective on the landscape.
HUNTING FROM HIGHSTAND
Moose hunting from a highstand provides an exciting and strategic hunting experience where you can monitor large areas and spot bull moose from a distance. The highstands are placed in carefully selected locations where bull moose often pass, especially during the rut. From the stand you get a perfect view of the landscape, giving you a clear advantage when choosing the right time and the best shot opportunity.
HUNTING PERIODS
September - October
During the rut we have the opportunity to attract bull moose
by using our moose cow call. The bull moose are getting closer
and provides an intense hunting experience where the chance of a shot
at close range is great. Moose bulls can walk many kilometers after letting out our cow calls.
Combining hunting from boat or higstand, together with covering country by horse
where we ride out into the field to cover larger areas.
October - November
The post-rutting season hunt for moose is physically challenging,
as temperatures often drop to freezing. During this period
pulling the bull moose further into the mountains, gathering strength
after the rutting season. We use the horses to cover the big
areas and set up camp in the mountains, giving us
opportunity to follow the bull moose on mountainsides and get
Access to more remote and undisturbed areas.
The area
Our hunting area is located in British Columbia and covers almost 16,000 square kilometres, which is twice the size of half Denmark. This area is very special - both because of the rich game population and the unique variety of hunting terrain. The hunting area stretches across three separate mountain ranges, and although we hunt here all year round, it's impossible to explore everything in a lifetime. The western part of the area offers dramatic, glacier-clad mountains, while the rolling alpine hills in the east create a beautiful contrast. Everywhere you'll find river valleys covered in willow and old burn areas that create optimal living conditions for moose. The rivers and mild climate make the area particularly attractive to moose during the rut. As the temperature drops and the rut fades, the bulls begin to migrate to higher elevations where they gather in bachelor groups. Our hunting area thus offers a wealth of hunting experiences that celebrate nature's diversity and variety.
The journey there
All our hunting trips begin in Prince George, British Columbia, which is easily accessible by flights from major international carriers like Air Canada and WestJet. We pick you up at 10.00 am at the Carmel Inn (www.carmelinn.ca) in Prince George the day before the hunt starts. The journey to basecamp takes around 6-8 hours by car and this is where the adventure begins. It's a great opportunity to get to know each other as we slowly approach the start of the hunt in the impressive Canadian wilderness. To ensure you are well prepared, we recommend that you arrive in Prince George at least one day before pick-up. This way you can avoid any delays and be fully prepared for the hunting experience.

ACCOMMODATION
When you arrive in Prince George, you'll be met by us and picked up in a pickup truck and taken to our base camp, located 6-8 hours into the mountains. We'll spend the first evening landing, sorting out the logistics and getting ready for the hunting adventure ahead. We'll gather for a nice dinner, go through the practical details and take a trip to the shooting range so you feel confident and ready for the hunt.
Depending on your preferences, the hunt can be based at our basecamp, a remote cabin, a spike camp - or a combination of these. Below you can read more about the different types of stays
BASECAMP
Our basecamp is beautifully secluded on the shores of a tranquil lake, in the middle of the Canadian wilderness. Here you'll find rustic yet comfortable cabins with wood-burning stoves and bunks. The basecamp is equipped with electricity and hot showers so you can relax and recharge after a day in the backcountry. We also have a secondary basecamp deeper in the wilderness - a charming 2-storey log cabin that serves as our backcountry camp. Here too there is electricity and a hot shower, this is where we ride out.
CABIN
Our hunting from cabins provides a comfortable experience as we are guaranteed dry weather and have better facilities. Each cabin is equipped with a wood-burning stove and mattresses so you can enjoy a good night's sleep and stay warm after a long day of hunting. We have carefully selected cabins that are strategically located in different parts of the terrain, close to the best hunting areas. This allows you to experience the many facets of the landscape, from the lush valleys to the more dramatic mountainsides. The cabins offer a comfortable stay, leaving you well-rested and ready for the next day's hunt.
SPIKECAMP
Our spike camp offers an authentic wilderness experience. Here we stay in either lightweight hiking tents carried on our backs or in wall tents with stoves carried out by horses. Wall tents provide a little extra comfort, while hiking tents offer a more primitive experience. Hiking tents can be used in all types of hunting if a spontaneous opportunity to take down a moose arises. Regardless of tent type, you get close contact with nature and a true wilderness hunt.

We've now been in Canada for almost a month, and the first few weeks have been about much more than just hunting. 🏔️
Rikke has been taking part in a biological study in the Rocky Mountains, collecting plant samples in areas where Stone Sheep are often found. Studies like these help us better understand and protect nature and wildlife. Meanwhile, Trine has been at basecamp, training horses and getting everything ready for the season.
Being a hunting guide in Canada is about much more than hunting – we grow, learn, and improve every time we are here. Now we’re looking forward to welcoming our first clients of the season. 🐻
Hope all is well back in Denmark!
We went snowshoeing today and found a matching pair. 🫎
Heading off to Canada, preparing for another bear season next week. Can't wait to welcome our hunting guests for some wilderness adventures. 🐻
As many of you have already discovered, we have been chosen to host a nature programme on DR. Thank you to all of you who are writing and calling – we are doing our best to reach you all in the coming days.
There are many reactions, and we understand that. For us, it's about approaching it with respect, being ourselves throughout, and continuing to communicate the hunt at eye level.
At the same time, we want to be very clear: Our company and our hunting guests are and will remain at the heart of what we do. We will continue to provide guidance, give lectures, and take companies out into nature – both in Denmark and around the world.
We don't compromise on Hunt & Hike – we're fundamentally just two hunting guides with a passion for adventure.
Thanks for the support 🧡

Our last group in Sweden included a familiar face-a former hunting guest and friend from our mountain goat trips in Canada. This time, he brought his twin sons along.
It really made it all come full circle guiding their father to success on mountain goat, and just a year and a half later guiding his two boys on fallow deer here in Sweden.
Hunting across generations means everything to us. Not just for the tradition, but because really the best moments are shared under open skies and around a fire. 🌕

Our hunting trips to Sweden are for anyone who wants the full experience. 🇸🇪
Whether you're totally new to hunting, looking to learn new techniques or just get better at what you already do.
These guys came to learn-and to bring some meat home for their families.
We guided them through everything, from field dressing and skinning to how we plan and approach a stalk, so they could be part of the whole process.
Thanks for a great trip guys, safe travels home 🌲
